Your domain name is probably one the most important parts of your presence on the internet. It's also known as your "address" and allows visitors to find your digital home more easily.
How it works, at a high level, is not that difficult to understand. Yet, it is still complex to need professional management.
Your domain name translates to a series of numbers (and letters in later protocols) which are difficult to remember and certainly don't roll off the tongue. This is called your IP (Internet Protocol) address. www.google.co.uk is far easier to say and remember than 126.96.36.199, yet both are the same website and the same address.
The Name Server's role is to route the domain name, to the correct IP address. Think of this like a contact in your mobile phone. Contacts will be stored under a name (domain name), yet behind the name is the all important phone number (IP address). When you select the contacts name, the phone looks up the stored number and dials it. A name server does the same thing but with a IP address instead of a phone number.
DNS Records allow over-riding of IP addresses stored on the Name Server which gives you the opportunity to re-route certain elements of your domain name. For instance, your could point the MX (Mail Exchange) record to your own internal mail server IP address, to re-route all emails away from your web hosting server and directly to your own Mail Exchange server.
We can set up and manage these records on your behalf, so that you can concentrate your resources to more business critical tasks.
Many of our customers own and use multiple domain names, more often that not with one domain pointing, or re-directing if you like, to another. Here is a prime example. If you click this link - milbroproshotuk.com you will end up here proshotcatapults.com. The first domain is re-directing all the traffic to the second domain. This is extremely handy when you want to buy more than one domain name for a single site. This also improves search engine results and rankings and stops a competitor potentially buying a name similar to yours, and piggy-backing off of your search results.
The same can be done with emails accounts. An address of quote_me@ could be forwarded to sales@ to be picked up by the sales team. These are fairly straight forward task for us, but perhaps not for you, so we can easily take care of this for you.
We can easily create and manage any web and email accounts or quotas you want. We can create FTP and Admin access accounts, email accounts and even server accounts if required.
We can also apply restrictions and quotas to your accounts, giving you peace of mind that you will not suddenly go over quota regarding bandwidth or storage. It's just another small piece of the big picture, but it's the small things that often get over-looked and become critical.
We will happily manage all of your SSL certification requirements, including the purchase, creation and installation of your certificate/s, and the purchase and management of your dedicated IP address (which is a mandatory requirement for using a SSL certificate).
We can offer certificates from all the major providers, covering a range of different options and warranties, including single and multiple domain SSL certificates, wildcard/sub-domain SSL certificates, and also Exchange Server (UCC) SSL certificates.
